Winter Activities

endless possibilities for relaxation and recreation

Taivalkoski, the southernmost fell region in Lapland is a snow-sure travel destination, and the majestic trees of the taiga beckon you to an adventure. Pristine snow as far as the eye can see.

Winter Multi-Use Trails

Taivalkoski has two multi-use trails that are also open during the winter season. These trails are intended for walkers, snowshoers, and fatbike riders. Dogs are welcome as well, as long as they are kept on a leash.

There are two trails: the Siikavaara Trail (approx. 10 km) and the Kikarilampi Trail (approx. 11 km). Both trails start from the Taivalvaara Ski Resort, at the parking area along Mäkitie road. The circular Siikavaara Trail runs through the Iijoki river landscape and the hills of Taivalvaara. The Kikarilampi Trail is an out-and-back route that crosses Highway 20 (VT20) and then forms a circular loop through beautiful ridge scenery.

Along the trails, there are two lean-to shelters: the Pikku-Tervalampi Shelter, located 1.8 km from Taivalvaara, and the Turvakonalus Bird Tower Shelter, located 1.6 km from Taivalvaara. Both shelters are equipped with firewood and make for great rest stops or family-friendly destinations.
